Fantastical Things I’m Excited About

Happy first day of summer! The year is more than half-over…can you believe it? And so many shiny things around the bend for fantasy lovers. Here are a few fantastical things that I am looking forward to.

The Grishaverse books are being adapted into a TV series for Netflix.

The show will follow the events of Shadow and Bone, Siege and Storm, Ruin and Rising, Six of Crows, and Crooked Kingdom. I didn’t realize that the Six of Crows heist story line runs parallel to events in the Shadow and Bone trilogy. I mean, I should have, but somehow missed the memo.

Speaking of the Grishaverse: I just started reading King of Scars, and it definitely has my attention.

There’s another show that I want to watch. It’s an Amazon Original called Carnival Row. Here’s the IMDb blurb:

Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne star in the Amazon Original series Carnival Row, a Victorian fantasy world filled with mythological immigrant creatures. Feared by humans, they are forbidden to live, love, or fly with freedom.

It looks very promising.

There’s also going to be…wait for it…a Middle Earth Amazon Original series! I haven’t heard too much about what the focus is going to be on (Bilbo’s time? Frodo’s time? Aragorn origins? Luthien and Beren?) At this point, I kind of want to be surprised, but I’m sure that’ll change. What I do know I most definitely want is for Sir Ian McKellen to reprise his role of Gandalf. Do it, Sir Ian. We need you!

There are also some interesting fantasy novels on the way *cough**The Goblets Immortal**cough*

What are YOU looking forward to, my Preciousss?

  1. I understand the betting is that Amazon’s Middle-Earth series may take place during the Second Age, the period of Numenor, which is little explored in the canon. Lots of room for adaptation . . .
