Do you have a cheerleader in your life? I don’t mean someone who puts on a tight uniform and shouts “Rah! Rah! Rah!” at sporting events. Nope.
The person I’m talking about asks you questions about yourself. Tells you that you can do it. Is excited for you. Sympathizes with you over “failures” and setbacks. Believes in you. I think everyone needs this person in their life. Me? I’m very fortunate. I have several:
Rob & Debbie C. (You know who you are!)
Victoria Vogel
Ruthie J.
Julene P.
Sharon S.
These women (plus Rob!) have really cheered me up and on as I pursue my dreams. Thanks, guys, for believing in me and for letting me know that you believe in me.
And to Cheryl Ashton, who believed in me as a writer first: Thank you.
All of this is great, but it leaves me wondering: Am *I* the cheerleader of someone’s life? Do I encourage them? Comfort them? Inspire them? I want to be. But I fear I’ve fallen short in this area.
I don’t view people as projects. I just don’t. But I’m inspired. I know a very talented young artist. I’m going to check in on her 🙂 Maybe that’ll give her the lift that all these people have given me.
Keep your pen on the page,
Beth
