Fantastic Christmas Gift Ideas for the Writers and Readers in Your Life

Hello, fellow readers and writers!

It’s almost the most “wonderful time of the year.” I’m sorry. Truly. But it is. And that means, for a lot of people around the world, it’s time to start Christmas/holiday shopping.

This year, I thought it would be fun to put together a list of gift ideas for your writer and reader friends/family/co-workers/whomever. Not that I’ve necessarily have all of these items myself (I will note which ones I do), but these all seem like fab gifts to me.

Ready?

1 – Fingerless gloves (WRITER or READER)

Perfect for keeping their hands warm and yet making it possible to still type or turn pages, fingerless gloves could be used out of doors or in. In fact, Storiarts sells literature-themed fingerless gloves on their site and on Etsy. [I have a pair of Peter Pan-themed gloves from Storiarts. Be warned that run a touch small.]

2 – Frost Beard Studio candles (READER)

These candles are all inspired by different books or popular films. I’ve bought some in the past (Reading in a Café is my favorite.) Who doesn’t like to read with a candle flickering in the background? I mean, serious cozy vibes, you guys. https://www.frostbeardstudio.com/

3 – Pomodoro timer (WRITER)
Ask your writer friend to Google the Pomodoro Technique. It’s basically a way of better managing your time during a task such as writing. Amazon has a selection of “Pomodoro Timers.” I have one!

4 – Literary-themed cookbook (READER)
There are tons of cookbooks out there with recipes inspired by popular literature. I have a Little Women cookbook (by Wini Moranville) and it has some excellent recipes in it. Find out your bookworm’s favorite book and see if there’s a corresponding cookbook at B&N or on Amazon.

5 – Seat cushion (WRITER)

Let’s face it: writers are at their desks and on their duffs for long periods of time. A seat cushion could bring them some serious relief.

6 – Waterproof shower notes (WRITER)

A lot of writers say their best thoughts come to them in the shower. But then they’re wet and there’s nothing to write with and it’s just a disaster. Why not get them these waterproof notepads with pencils?

7 – Bookstand (READER)

Not everyone likes to hold a book propped up while they’re reading. Or they might want to set it down quickly without bookmarking it. A bookstand could be the answer. I have one from Uncommon Goods that allows you to set your book spine-up, pages splayed open, atop a wooden teepee. There’s also a place on the base for a tea mug and your reading glasses.

8 – Pretty notebooks from Flame Tree Publishing (READER or WRITER)

Flame Tree Publishing has licensed a lot of pretty artwork by famous artists (van Gogh being among them, last I looked) for their notebooks. You can find FTP’s notebooks on Amazon, on their website, and even at some bookstores such as Half Price Books.

9 – Writing craft books (WRITER)

Here are some of my favorite craft books/authors:
– Stephen King’s On Writing
– James Scott Bell
– Zoe York
– Donald Maass

Also, I see that Charlie N. Holmberg is coming out with a book on magic systems. This will be a must-have for fantasy authors!

P.S. This was first published in my newsletter, which you can sign up for here and receive a free short story!
